The Unusual Character & Extra Value of Singapore Journalism
Singapore Senior Minister LEE KUAN YEW amoung other things boasted, in May 1996 during the parliamentary debate over the issue of purchases at huge discounts by him and members of his family and relatives of expensive properties from a public listed company, HOTEL PROPERTY LTD (HPL which owes a duty to its members to secure maximum benefits for their shares), that Singapore journalists are better paid than those outside Singapore. What the Senior Minister LEE KUAN YEW did not say during the debate is that Singapore journalists are obliged or required to provide extra valuable service which is absolutely essential for the function and maintenance of the PAP's brand of 'democracy'.
Beware if you have to talk to journalists from Singapore!!!
